REVIEW: Bread & Milk, Brighton

by - October 15, 2012

I love the fact that our local cafes are making the transition from boho to stylish, competing with some of the better boutique coffee shops in the capital. I don't want to sit surrounded by dodgy local "art" and hand knitted cupcakes, piles of leaflets on aromatherapy for dogs and meditation retreats. I'm done with sticky, laminated menus and tofu brunches.

Bread & Milk will have the style savvy salivating. Stripped ceiling, coloured electrical cords, industrial refrigeration and gold vinyl signage. And the Gill Sans typeface isn't the only thing that makes this place feel very British without resorting to Union flags all over the place with vintage glass milk bottles and brown "Betty" teapots.

Food on offer is limited to pitta pockets, pastries, muffins, toasted sandwiches and sandwich based breakfasts but the premises are compact, not really allowing for a full kitchen operation. There are a few spots to sit, including benches outside. Bread & Milk may not be a place to linger for lunch (and without loo facilities either) but a great pit stop or take away for a bite to eat and a great coffee.
